STPI- What Is It Exactly?
Established in 1991, the STPI or Software Technology Parks was founded as an autonomous society governed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The main motive of this society is to promote software exports from the country, and hence it was led to the development of several Centres of Excellence in the country.
This society tends to provide high data communication facility and single-window services to software professionals. Indian IT industry is flourishing and is expected to get even better through ever-growing Business processes outsourcing or BPO sources. More than 5000 units are already registered with STPI.
STPI offers a wide slew of services for the ESDM/IT/ITES industry. The popular services are:
- Statutory services
- Incubation services
- Datacom Services
- Consultancy services
The incubation services help STPI promote small and medium entrepreneurs by organising events, exporting promotion efforts and sponsoring or co-sponsoring events. Under Digital India Initiative, STPI is also the nodal agency for the implementation of NEBPS and IBPS.
How many STPI centres are there altogether?
There are a total of 60 operational STPI centres or sub-centres throughout the country. Fifty of them are present in Tier II and Tier III cities. STPI works with local authorities and State Governments so that it gets access to infrastructure facilities and enough space required for the development of the software industry and increase exports.
