Where Will, The 12 Centres of Excellence, Dispatched By The STPI?
The DG of STPI, Dr Omakr Rai, announced that the Startup Technology Parks of India is about to open 12 new Centres of Excellence in the country. He also added that this decision had been made to make India a proud and strong product nation in times to come. This announcement was made on the 30th Foundation Day of STPI, which is 5th June.
The Centres of Excellence or CoE is to be opened in areas of emerging technology like AI and computer vision, IoT, Blockchain, Fintech, Gaming and Automation, Augmented & Virtual Reality, etc. As per the Director General’s announcement, here are the 12 more Centres of Excellences that are to be launched in India.
- AIC STPINEXT, a CoE in health tech, big data and Artificial Intelligence at Bengaluru
- CoE in agriculture at Akola
- CoE in Efficiency Augmentation at Bengaluru
- FinTech CoE at Gandhinagar
- SmartAgri IoT CoE at Patna
- CoE in Emerging Tech at Bhubaneshwar
- CoE in Industry 4.0 Technology at Visakhapatnam
- IT Applications in Healthcare and AgriTech at Gangtok
- GIS Applications including Drone Tech at Itanagar
- IT Applications in Graphic Design at Kohima
- Gaming at Aizawl
- Data Analytics at Agartala
These are the new set-ups that will happen possibly this year. However, STPI had already opened up 13 Centres of Excellence in different parts of India, such as:

- Electropreneur Park at New Delhi
- MOTION at Pune

- Animation at STPI Shillong

- AR/VR at Imphal
- IMAGE at Hyderabad
“Reimagination, recreation, restoring and repositioning are in the DNA of STPI”, said Dr Omkar Rai while making the announcement. He added how the Centres of Excellence are evolving to cater to the dynamic needs of the Indian IT industry.

STPI- What Is It Exactly?
Established in 1991, the STPI or Software Technology Parks was founded as an autonomous society governed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The main motive of this society is to promote software exports from the country, and hence it was led to the development of several Centres of Excellence in the country.
This society tends to provide high data communication facility and single-window services to software professionals. Indian IT industry is flourishing and is expected to get even better through ever-growing Business processes outsourcing or BPO sources. More than 5000 units are already registered with STPI.
STPI offers a wide slew of services for the ESDM/IT/ITES industry. The popular services are:

How many STPI centres are there altogether?
There are a total of 60 operational STPI centres or sub-centres throughout the country. Fifty of them are present in Tier II and Tier III cities. STPI works with local authorities and State Governments so that it gets access to infrastructure facilities and enough space required for the development of the software industry and increase exports.
